This Privacy Policy describes how LAW (Pty) Ltd ("LAW", "we", "us") collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal information when you use our practice management platform. We are committed to your privacy and comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

LAW is a South African legal technology company providing AI-powered practice management software to law firms. Our registered office is in South Africa, and all data processing occurs within South Africa (AWS Cape Town region).

2.1 Information You Provide

Firm name, full name, and email address at registration
Password (stored as an irreversible hash — never in plaintext)
Attorney style profiles and precedent documents you upload
Documents you generate or process through the platform
Accounting records, client data, and calendar entries you connect

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

Browser type, device information, and IP address
Usage data: pages visited, features used, session duration
Error logs for platform stability and support purposes

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your personal information solely to:

Provide and improve the LAW platform services
Personalise AI document generation to your firm's style
Send transactional emails (account verification, billing receipts)
Provide customer support and respond to your queries
Comply with legal and regulatory obligations

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Data Storage & Security

All data is stored on AWS infrastructure located in the Cape Town (af-south-1) region within South Africa. We implement industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). Access is restricted to authorised personnel only.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Upon account closure, your personal data is deleted within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., financial records for 5 years under the Income Tax Act).

6. Your Rights Under POPIA

As a data subject, you have the right to:

Access the personal information we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate personal information
Request deletion of your personal information (subject to legal obligations)
Object to the processing of your personal information
Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa

7. Cookies

We use essential session cookies to maintain your logged-in state. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser, but some platform features may not function correctly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to you via email or a prominent notice on the platform. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
